At Storage Garage

I found this truck on Portland craigslist and it was located at a house in Troutdale, Oregon. The person who had it wanted $700.00 for it, but the brakes were non existant. But it fired right up, so I offered $500.00 and I owned a truck. I drove it down the street to a house that the owners were away overseas, so I stored it there in the driveway until the wekend.

The front passinger side brake was leaking brake fuild in a large flow when the pedal was depressed. I went and bought a new wheel cylinder from napa for that side. On Saturday Bob and I went over to install the wheel cylinder and drive it to the storage garrage that I have rented. I pulled the drum off the truck, Boy oh Boy the last person had wore down the brake shoes so far the the brake shoes ground down into the drum. In fact the damage had been going on so long that the wheel cylinder blew apart.

I cleaned up the backing plate a little and went to install the wheel cylinder when low and behold I had the drivers side wheel cylinder. It is very sad when a person goes to a parts store and they can not tell right from left. I put the drum on and tried to find the proper cylinder. No such luck on Saturday afternoon, went home and found one in Hillsboro.

Returned the following weekend and installed the wheel cylinder and new brake shoes. I bled the brakes until I had a little pedal and drove it about 15 miles to the storage garage. Boy was that fun?
